Celebrating Tết with HVA family as we eat Bánh Tét, and other Viet foods

We host various food outings throughout the year to Dorchester, Chinatown, Downtown Boston and other places around Boston area to discover new places to get Viet foods together.

Practice Vietnamese with games, snacks, music, and more! All levels of Vietnamese are welcome!

Community and national civil rights organizations are uniting with more than 30 Harvard student, including HVA, alumni and staff groups to hold a #DefendDiversity rally in Harvard Square to show their support for diversity on campus. The rally is on the eve of trial in a lawsuit that seeks to eliminate race in Harvard’s admissions process and threatens diversity at the college.

In the past, HVA hosted cultural show to showcase Vietnamese culture and heritage through various artistic performances and dances.

Mỹ Tâm, a famous Vietnamese singer, visited Harvard in late 2015 and were welcomed by HVA members. Việt Thanh Nguyễn, the author of The Sympathizer, visited Harvard in early December to chat and give autographs.

We host various movie viewings throughout the year to celebrate the Vietnamese culture and to learn more about our heritage but most importantly is to have fun and bond with each other. In the past we watched Em Chưa 18 (Jailbait) and episode of Netflix's Street Food series about Vietnam.

Our first event for every year where we welcome new members and first years to HVA as we cook Vietnamese food, play games with our sib-fams and do other bonding activities.

We had dinner as we chat with Susan Lieu, a Harvard College alum, about the national premiere of her one-person production, 140 LBS: How Beauty Killed My Mother. The performance explores how beauty and gender standards affected her mother, and the way that that trauma and intergenerational trauma have affected her. We plan to host speaker series occasionally throughout the year.
